Title: What Operating System are you using?
Post by: Floyd on May 30, 2010, 12:30:29 pm
Even though the new server is Windows XP, I put "OS/2 or eComStation" because I made this post from eComStation.

What do you use?

I use XP. I'm happy. I probably wouldn't use it if someone gave me a mac, though.

That sucks. Vista is the reason I'm now using a Mac.

Cuz using XP is so hard.

XP remains the best Windows operating system. Lol.

I would argue that NT 3.51 is the best version of Windows. It's ridiculous what can be made to run on it- Firefox 2, a Universal Video Driver for modern hardware, MS-Paint and Wordpad from Windows 2000, Microsoft Office 97 (though it was made to run on the system) and I've heard of even more recent programs being made to run by people who know more than me. XP is a close second, then:
Windows 2000
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 7
95
Vista
3.11
98
Millennium Edition
2.0
1.0

I'm using 7 because I can't really use anything else.
I want to use 95, 98, XP, Vista, or any Mac, but I can't.

I'm using a mac. It simplifies my life, and I need iLife stuff to do a lot of my projects.

I'm using windows 7, because I just bought an expensive new computer and it doesn't work (long story).

About everyone wanting a MAC... Be happy that you have windows. I've been 'gifted' with the opportunity to work with both and if you've lived with windows then stay with it.
MAC just has too few options, not enough things you can tweak. It uses the 'less errors than windows' as a campaign stunt, but that's all it is. I've seen tons of MACs crash for no reason at all.
Let me put it simple:

MAC is better than windows if you don't change any of the settings. But you can change windows in so many ways more than a MAC, that the MAC will look like some kind of ''PC for dummies'' manual.
Apple lovers are shouting around ''All you can do on a PC can now also be done on a MAC and more!''. The point they're missing is that everything that can be done on a MAC can be done on a Windows PC

Nicely spoken about the Mac vs PC thing. I agree completely. I currently work for a college IT department. Our "Mac guy" does all his work on his Mac....running a windows VM because the Mac just doesn't cut it functionality-wise. The netAdmin got mad at windows 10, converted to mac, got even angrier at macOS and went BACK to windows! Anyway, i'm prettymuch kicking a dead horse.

I run lots of things. This laptop runs win 10, my desktop runs 8.1u1 because I haven't had the time to wipe it for win 10 yet, I have a couple older machines that run various linux distros, and one powerPC iMac G5 that the aforementioned "mac guy" gifted to me....too slow for macOS so I put mint linux on it (much faster).

Long story short, from time to time, I run everything because its my job to know how.
