Disk space???

rejoiceitssusan:
So I'm basically a computer imbecile, so when my macbook says I'm almost out of disk space what exactly does that mean and how can I get more?? I deleted a ton of stuff but it still says I'm almost out so what do I dooooooooooooooo. I want to keep acquiring more music and TV!!!!

Undertaker Sheep:
Basically, your harddrive is filled with too much information. You'll have to delete files in order to save others. Think of your laptop as box, filled to the brim with pebbles. You just got new pebbles from the store and want to put them in your box, but there is no more room. You'll have to remove some older pebbles to make room for the new ones

Sorry if it sounded like I was treating you like a child, that was not my intention =P

Floyd:
^ Pretty much that.
If it were Windows, you could clean up unused system files and stuff and on NTFS hard drives, you can compress files to save disk space. On your shitty Mac, all you can do is delete stuff you don't need anymore.
I am running out of space on my old 1993 laptop, it has a 1gb hard drive and it has 10mb left. I am slowly deleting files I don't use, it is basically a music terminal with a DOS mp3 player, Windows 3.11 and lots of music on it. I am slowly deleting windows system files (not recommeded) and DOS programs I don't use in order to make more room for music.

Undertaker Sheep:
Wouldn't it be better to buy an external usb drive? I have one of 1tb, you could use that for your music. Perhaps even connect it to your local network instead of a pc, so you can access it from every pc you have.
But, seeing you are indeed Floyd, I'm probably just stating ideas you've already thought off yourself xD
And why does it seem that most people who own a mac are 'computer imbeciles'? Is a PC too high maintenance for them?

Floyd:
This is a laptop from 1993, it has no USB ports. even if it did to use them would require at least Windows 95, which requires 32mb of ram, this one has 16mb and I can't find any to work in it. it has network access, so I have another computer with more space I can connect to and move stuff between them. This is all at my mom's house. If I could find a 1993 Compaq laptop hard drive, I could add a second one to it because it has a dock.

Also, Susan, do you have access to a desktop with a bigger hard drive? you can set it up as a file server and put all the stuff you don't use a lot on it. it does not have to be a new computer, an older computer with a big hard drive makes an excellent file server.
