website's back! or at least it should be! and fast enough someone might actually want to visit it! well i guess it's still limited to 100mbps but thats all the server's ethernet card can handle anyway. Could a pentium 3 even serve pages any faster than that?
i shoud fix the forum so it works again now that the website is kinda almost fast
they called yesterday and said they will be coming today to install fiberoptic internet, replacing my old reliable dsl. im not sure what this means
for the future of this website, hopefully nothing but you never know. im assuming i will get a new modem, they might even replace our old landline
telephones with voip or something. my one worry is if the new modem is shitty and restrictive and doesn't have the port forwarding functions needed
to make the website work, thus i am making this post. hopefully it won't be the last, and i'll be back later today and slightly faster, but just in
case, i'm going to manually crawl the website in its current form on the internet archive so something of it will remain in case im no longer able
to make the website work. guess i'll find out this afternoon between the hours of 2 and 4pm. if everything goes well, i'll see you all on the other
side.

yes, i finally upgraded the forum software from 2.0 to 2.0.17, along with it i had to also upgrade php from 5.2 to 5.4.45, the last version available for windows xp. i wonder how much longer smf will support php 5.x when the latest version is 7.0. mysql is still the same as it's always been. i did all this to try to get a better antispam system working, although if i could actually get the email verification system working that would probably help as much as anything. well anyway we just traveled seven years into the future in just a few hours. things are up-to-date. now if i could only get https working. oh well that's a project for another day. welcome to chorus of one 5.0. chorus of one 2000? idk i'll come up with a name later lol.
in the last three days a few thousand spam posts and nearly another thousand spam accounts joined the forum (sound familiar?). that is the most activity I've had on here since when the same thing happened last year. i ended up just restoring the most recent backup of the database, which unfortunately, was made about five minutes after i cleaned up the last spam attack, because i'm terrible at actually running a website. if you were one of the like two people who joined and posted since October 31, 2019, i'm sorry, you will have to recreate you're account. guess i'm gonna have to come up with a new fix for the antispam system. also maybe automate some fucking sql backups for once, they really aren't that big, damn.
oh and while i was in here i archived the news from 2016, it's here now.
also here's this year's showlog, it's not like i'll be going to any more shows any time soon anyway.

fest was supposed tom be this weekend. but it wasn't because it got canceled because of the plague that the president refuses to do anything about. i guess this truly concludes bummer summer. i've always thought of fest as more of a new year than new year's eve, so let's hope that this also concludes the worst year ever, and on tuesday that piece of shit donald trump looses the election a lot. i don't particularly like joe biden either but it is at leas better than the alternative. if you haven't voted yet, then do that on tuesday. if not for yourself or all the people getting killed or left to die or the environment than at least for the hope that fest might happen next year. hopefully fest will happen next year. i miss shows. i miss my friends. i miss fest.

well, mostly anyway. the hard drive on the server died, fortunately i was able to back it up and no files have been lost. the whole site is running in vitrtualbox on my main desktop right now, so until i can get a new hard drive for the real server the website will only be online from about 9am till 11pm. maybe more but probably not, i don't like to leave my bedroom desktop running at night. i'm probably going to get a ssd now so the website will probably run better than before, but it will obviously be a while before i can get one in, i haven't even ordered one yet. pata ide hard drives of any kind are getting hard to find.

ok so while i was off tumblr yesterday i made some updates. most noticeably, this isn't "the internet's only strike anywhere message board" anymore, but i talked about that yesterday. also i replaced the chatroom on the radio show page, so that works again. still no idea when i'll do another radio show, i don't even have the broadcast software installed on my computer anymore. there is a new thing in the computer stuff section about running windows media player 10 on windows 10, maybe it will prove useful to someone. people still come here for program manager and desk.cpl. i guess that's all. maybe this won't be the end of the newfound activity on here.
this isn't going to be a strike anywhere message board anymore. considering there isn't anybody on here anyway, that's probably doing the band more harm than good. the website will live forever, but from now on it's going to just be more general interest. perhaps focus more on computer stuff. it's still chorusofone, and will always be the most diy website this side of 1998, but with tumblr's future uncertain, i need a place i can go if that place disappears.
so tumblr has a bunch of awful new regulations, and has banned adult content. this website was basically founded as a way of complaining about another website that did something similar so it seems appropriate that i'm gonna spend the day on here instead of tumblr. a bunch of other people are logging off tomorrow too. maybe i'll just post some dumb memes on here to fill the space left by tumblr, maybe i'll do something interesting. anyway if any of my followers from tumblr stop by here, feel free to reply to this, you don't have to register on the forum guests can do it too. you have to give me your email address but don't worry i wont use it because i never got any kind of email server working on here, i always just had to use my personal account anyway.

i finally replaced the network card that the lightning fried a couple weeks ago. that's all i guess. we have a nazi for president now that's lame. i need to actually buy a new network card for this thing, i had to go thru like three before i found one that worked without having to hunt down drivers. gigabit LAN would be nice but it wouldn't make anything faster for you, i should see how much a new card would cost. it would be weird spending money on this website, its been running seven years (HOLY SHIT!) and hasn't cost anything but electricity.
